Run club in Pontefract
Pontefract Athletics Club is a road running, cross country and track and field club established in March 2010 for athletes aged 7 upwards, with separate junior and senior training. Adult road runners train twice a week from Pontefract Park, with distance options and a social 5k group. The club enters local, regional and national competitions and also holds internal club competitions.
Road running training runs twice a week and members can attend either or both sessions: Monday offers 4 mile and 6 mile options, and Thursday is a social 5k at intermediate level described as suitable for all abilities, both meeting 18:50 for a 19:00 start at Pontefract Park. The home page states the road running group meets every Monday and Thursday at 19:00 at Aspire. Track and field training takes place at Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre, Cudworth on Mondays 19:00-20:00 all year, and on Fridays 19:00-20:00 at the Kings School, Pontefract (indoors in winter, one hour earlier in September); coaching covers sprints, hurdles, endurance including steeplechase, and field events. Cross country sessions and races are held in winter.
