Wigston Phoenix Running Club is a local club for runners of all standards in Wigston, Oadby and south west Leicestershire. Members range from beginners and social runners to club competitors, and runs are organised into groups of different paces and distances with a leader for each group. The main club night is Tuesday, with optional Thursday training sessions and Sunday morning runs.
Tuesday is the main club night: arrive 18:45–18:50 for a 19:00 start, with groups of different paces covering roughly 4 to 10 miles, on road in winter and across fields and trails in summer; every group has a designated leader so no one is left behind. Thursday is optional training — in summer speed sessions at the University running track on Manor Road, Oadby (sessions may also run at Bradgate Park or be merged with pub runs), and in winter speed and hill sessions from Victoria Park (Victoria Park Road, near the Health Centre, LE2 1XD), Aylestone Lane car park, Wigston (LE18 1AA) or Hidcote Road car park, Parklands Leisure Centre, Oadby (LE2 5JJ), 18:50 for 19:00. Sunday morning runs of varying distance and terrain are also optional; details, meeting point and start time are confirmed at the club on Tuesdays. Teams enter the Leicestershire Road Running League, the Derby Runner Cross Country League and other road, cross country and fell races, though racing is not compulsory. Social activities include pub runs, handicaps, a parkrun tour and training weekends away twice a year (late April/early May and early November). The join page states membership is £20 per year; renewal information states the club subscription is £15 (with concession and honorary rates) plus a £20 England Athletics affiliation fee, with renewals due from 1 April.
