Run club in Leicester
West End Runners is an adult-only running club in Leicester, formed in March 1984. Members range from those competing in road, cross country, fell and ultra events to people who run socially to keep fit. The main club night is Wednesday at Leicester Rowing Club, with groups heading out together over routes of about 5 to 8 miles.
Wednesday club nights start with announcements at 19:15 and runs from 19:30; first-time visitors are advised to arrive around 19:00. Groups usually range from sub-7 minute mile pace to 10-minute mile pace, covering 5 to 8 miles, and a "quality" session is often available. Members-only coached track sessions run on Mondays at Saffron Lane Athletics Stadium for speed training; these are free to members with track fees included in the membership fee. There is a minimum standard: you should be able to run at least 5 miles in under one hour. Visitors may run twice as a guest free of charge, and teas and coffees after runs are free. Membership is annual, running 1 April to 31 March, currently ยฃ27 a year or ยฃ13.50 for students and the unwaged, paid via an emailed link. The club is for over 18s only and has no junior section. Facilities at the rowing club include changing rooms, showers, free lockers, a meeting room and kitchen area; there is off-road parking and a bike rack, with additional parking on Eastern Boulevard. The club takes part in the Leicestershire Road Running League, the Derby Runner Cross-Country League and parkruns. England Athletics affiliated club.
