Stevenage Phoenix Running Club

Stevenage Phoenix Running Club is an inclusive club affiliated to England Athletics and the Herts County Amateur Athletics Association. Sessions are aimed at runners who can already cover at least 5km continuously, using interval training, fartlek, hills, tempo/steady running and off-road routes, plus fortnightly grass-track sessions at Barnwell School in summer. Weekday runs mostly use Stevenage's cycleway network, while Sunday runs explore trails and countryside around the town.

Tuesday and Thursday evening sessions start at 18:45 and alternate between fartlek group runs (4.5–7 miles), interval training, hill training and tempo/steady running; speed endurance sessions are split into pace-based groups named Griffins, Harpies and Rocs, each with at least one run leader. Sunday mornings offer a 5k/3 mile run at 08:30 followed by a longer run of 5+ miles at 09:15, with total distances from 5km up to 10–12 miles; members can do either or both. Fortnightly track sessions run on the grass track at Barnwell School during the summer months. Membership is free for social members, with an optional annual fee for competitive membership, and runs from 1 April to 31 March (new members joining between 1 January and 31 March run through to 31 March the following year). Prospective members complete the online form on the website and the membership secretary arranges a taster session; training schedules are shared through the club WhatsApp group and the Team Up app. Contact: runners@stevenagephoenix.org.uk.
