Fairlands Valley Spartans is a UKA-registered running club based at Stevenage Cricket and Hockey Club in Hertfordshire, formed in 1984 and affiliated to England Athletics. It is primarily a road running club with track and off-road activity as well, and has around 400 members ranging from teenagers to runners in their seventies. Sessions cover complete beginners through to runners training for races from 5K to marathon, with coaches present at each session.
The club runs a pathway from a Monday run/walk session for complete beginners, through general improvement sessions on Tuesday and Thursday, to Saturday track sessions at Ridlins Stadium led by Level 1 coaches; the track sessions are covered by the annual membership fee rather than charged separately. The coaching team holds England Athletics qualifications and includes six senior coaches and 26 Leaders in Running Fitness, all first aid trained, DBS checked and safeguarding trained. Members take part in a summer midweek evening 10km league and a winter Sunday morning cross country league, and the club organises events including the Stevenage Half Marathon in November, a July off-road challenge with options from 12 miles to 50K, a 3k relay, a 5 mile race and a 5K race. Joining is via the sign-up links on the website; no contact details or fee amounts are given in the text supplied. England Athletics affiliated club.
