Run club in Oakham
Rutland Running & Triathlon Club is a club based in Oakham, Rutland, formed in 2000 as Rutland Running Club and now covering swim, bike and run. It is affiliated to England Athletics and to British Triathlon via Triathlon England, and caters for both competitive athletes and members who prefer social running. Weekly running sessions range from structured training and faster-paced runs to gentle group runs, with members free to train at their own pace.
There are three organised running sessions per week: Tuesday is a 60-minute training session (hill reps, sprints, fartlek, intervals, track) suitable for all abilities; Wednesday is a gentle 5-6 mile run from varying locations around Rutland, with head-torch runs in winter and loan head-torches available (check the Wednesday Run List page for the start location, arrive by 18:50); Thursday is a faster run of 5-6 miles at sub-8 min/mile, with a slower run of 4-5 miles at about 10:30 min/mile on alternate Thursdays. Weekend running sessions happen occasionally on an ad-hoc basis, and many members run or volunteer at Rutland Water parkrun on Saturday mornings; contact clubruns@rutlandrunandtri.co.uk about organising a regular weekend session. Two free beginners' run coaching courses run each year, starting in April and October, each lasting 10 weeks and led by qualified leaders in running fitness, aiming to get complete beginners running for 30 minutes non-stop. Visitors may attend any regular session before deciding to join. General enquiries: enquiries@rutlandrunandtri.co.uk; club secretary: clubsec@rutlandrunandtri.co.uk. A members' fund exists to help paid-up members of more than one year with costs such as entry fees, travel and accommodation, with applications submitted by the end of June. England Athletics affiliated club.
