About

Nanaimo Track and Field Club (NTFC) is a long-established athletics club on Vancouver Island, offering track and field plus cross country for ages 5 to 95. Adults are served by the Masters group (35+) and by the High School/Post-Secondary programme, which covers ages 14-18 and 19+. The Masters group trains year-round for indoor and outdoor competition, with fall sessions built around general conditioning such as hill and track intervals, trail runs, strength circuits and mobility, becoming more event-specific as the spring and summer competition season approaches.

The Masters season begins in mid-October with practices 2-3 days per week; the club states this is not a fitness group but a group for people who want to take part in athletics at a competitive level, though no previous experience is required and competing is not mandatory. Distance-oriented adult and senior athletes train through group distance runs, fartleks, hills and interval work on local trails and the track in the cross country season, switching to track sessions and long runs from January. Fees, schedules and registration links are published on the club's programmes page, and contact details for the head coach and registration are on the club website. The home facility, the Rotary Bowl, has been closed for a City of Nanaimo upgrade, with reopening expected in October. Athletics Canada affiliated club (via AthleticsReg; Cross Country).
