Ludlow Runners is a small road and cross country running club based in South Shropshire, catering for all ages and abilities from absolute beginners to experienced racers. Members run off road in Mortimer Forest, including winter runs with head torches, and around the streets of Ludlow. The club organises two of its own races and takes part in the Herefordshire and Borders Cross Country League.
Tuesday morning runs meet at a different location each week and cover 5k to 8km, with everyone running together and faster runners looping back. Tuesday evening runs start in town or in Mortimer Forest, with different ability groups and distances; high-viz is compulsory in winter and chest or head torches are required in the forest. Thursday sessions are coached and split into six groups: training runs at chatty aerobic pace (Group 1: 4-6km, Group 2: 6-7km, Group 3: 7-8km) and structured sessions for more experienced runners (Group 4: 8km+, Groups 5 and 6: 9-10km) involving hills, fartlek, intervals, speed or technique work. Newcomers speak to Colin or Anne on arrival to choose a group. A Walk to Run eight-week beginners course runs twice a year, starting in May and September, aiming to build up to running 40 minutes or around 5km. Additional runs at other daytimes and weekends are communicated in a weekly email. Three free sessions are available before joining. Membership is £25.00 a year single, £5.00 full-time student, £40.00 family (up to 2 adults and their children aged 16+), £20 for the beginners course temporary membership, with England Athletics affiliation an extra £19.00 a year (required for Herefordshire summer and winter league cross country races).
