Croft Ambrey RC

Croft Ambrey Running Club is a long-established club in North Herefordshire, formed in 1982 and named after the Ambrey at Croft Castle. Members take part in trail, fell, road, cross country and longer endurance running, and the club says it welcomes a range of abilities and ages. Training is held on two evenings a week, with the group kept together so runners of different speeds train alongside each other.

Tuesday and Thursday training sessions both start at 18:45, with head torches used for winter running; the club runs two training nights rather than keeping one as a longer social run, and slower runners may complete fewer efforts while still regrouping with the rest of the group. Session locations vary each week across North Herefordshire, including Croft Castle grounds, Mortimer Forest, Shobdon, Wigmore and Brampton Bryan, and are published each Sunday evening on the website, the Facebook page and the members' email newsletter. The club also holds a members' handicap series (three 5-mile road races and three off-road races), Winter and Summer Cross Country Series, and a 12-race Club Championship of which members must complete six. Non-members and guests may attend up to three free taster training sessions after completing a disclaimer form. Full membership from April 2026 is £37 including the £23 UKA affiliation fee; second claim and non-affiliated membership is £20, the latter suited to those not racing but who want to attend training and social events.
