Run club in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire
Leighton Fun Runners (LFR) is a running club established in 1983 in Leighton Buzzard with over 300 members, catering for all ages and abilities from new runners to marathon and ultra runners. Members take part in road, trail and cross country running, including the Three Counties cross country league, and the club has an active social side. A typical club run starts at the clubhouse and splits into pace or session groups led by run leaders, covering roughly 3-8 miles.
Tuesday is the main club night, meeting at the clubhouse before heading out; sessions rotate weekly between pace groups, out-and-back runs, loops and "5CAKE night" (first Tuesday of the month, a set 5 km or 5 mile run followed by drinks and cake at the clubhouse), with trail running added in summer. Pace group nights offer around eight groups from 7:30 min/mile to 11 min/mile plus social groups, each with a run leader, covering 3-8 miles, and no one is left behind. Thursday evening runs start at 19:15 or 19:30 from the clubhouse and generally include a social group, a coached performance session (intervals, pyramids, hill reps, fartlek, caterpillars or jeffing) and a chatty group at about 10 min/mile for 6 miles. Every Friday a group runs 5-6 miles on trails at 09:30, starting from Rushmere, Woburn, Eaton Bray, Ashridge or Ivinghoe. A Wednesday evening run or weekend daytime run is sometimes offered depending on run leader availability, announced in the weekly newsletter, along with annual events such as the Pancake Run, Breakfast Run, Watchless 5, BBQ Run and PJ Run. The club is affiliated to England Athletics and runs Couch to 5K courses several times a year; complete beginners are encouraged to finish a Couch to 5K course before joining.
