Run club in Newborough
Gippsland Athletics Club is a track and field club in the Gippsland region of Victoria, founded in 1955 and affiliated with Athletics Victoria. It caters for athletes in age groups from Under 14 through to Masters (40+), including sprints, middle-distance running and field events, and describes itself as a small, friendly club open to all abilities. Weekly competition runs on Tuesday evenings from October to late February at the Joe Carmody Athletics Track, with the annual Vern Curnow Pentathlon and representation at the Victorian Country Championships.
Membership is handled through the Athletics Victoria website, with fees made up of an Athletics Victoria component plus a Gippsland Athletics Club fee of $55 for senior and $35 for junior athletes. An AV base membership is enough to compete at club meets, score season points, enter the club pentathlon and compete at the Victorian Country Championships; additional AV packages cover winter cross country and AVSL competition. First-time athletes can trial twice free of charge before joining (an insurance requirement) and should arrive at the track before 6pm; returning athletes are asked to register before their first competition. Visiting athletes registered with another AV-affiliated club may compete for a flat $2 per meet, paid before competition starts. Recreational runners are welcome but subject to some restrictions. Competitions follow Athletics Victoria rules and policies; the club registrar can help with sign-up, and contact details are on the club website. Athletics Victoria athletics club.
