Run club in Bishop Auckland
Durham Fell Runners is a fell running club based in County Durham, described on its site as the only one in the county. It runs off-road group sessions around the tracks and fells of Hamsterley Forest, led by qualified Coaches or Leaders in Running Fitness, with the aim of building hill fitness and confidence on varied off-road terrain. Members compete in events of all distances and the club also organises its own races, including Bollihope Carrs, Cockfield Chase, Chapelfell Top, Cronkley and Silent Night.
Two weekly evening sessions run from the main car park at Hamsterley Forest: a ladies-only session on Tuesdays and a mixed session on Thursdays, both meeting from 18:50 ready to run at 19:00. Published training plans include fartlek, hill reps, pyramids, progression runs, time trials and social runs, with some Tuesday dates also offering a walk option. A monthly "home run" challenge is shared with members to complete in their own time. Because sessions are off-road and remote, attendees are asked to carry minimum kit: off-road shoes, waterproof jacket, hat, gloves, whistle and a mobile phone with emergency contact details or an ICE card; a head torch may be needed depending on the season.
