About

Black Combe Runners is a small fell running club covering the South Lakes, Furness and Millom area, with members from around Ulverston, Broughton, Barrow and Millom. Social runs take place on Tuesday evenings and range across the southern fells from Eskdale to Windermere, dropping lower down the fells in winter. The club has runners of all ages and abilities, roughly equal numbers of men and women, and also organises several fell races each year.

Tuesday evening social runs are described as an introduction to fell running and guests are welcome without joining; runners are advised to check the club calendar and to have fell shoes. In winter the club also runs a training league of Sunday morning fell, trail and cross-country chases, and someone usually organises a longer weekend run. The club runs road and fell championships based on a selected set of local races each year, plus a mid-year Summer Challenge team event. It hosts fell races including Black Combe (March), Caw (May), Duddon Valley (June), Bootle Show/Dark Side of the Combe (August), Eskdale Show (September), Dunnerdale (November) and Kirkby Moor (late November). The club is affiliated with Broughton Runners, who hold a coached session every Thursday evening in Broughton-in-Furness (details via the "Thursday Runners" Facebook group). Membership is open to all and described as very cheap; contact is by writing to the club or asking on Facebook. England Athletics affiliated club.
