Run club in Ashington
Ashington Hirst Running Club is a UK Athletics affiliated club based at Ashington Rugby Club in Northumberland, formed in 2014 and now with over 200 members. It caters for all abilities, from complete beginners doing run/walk through to faster paced groups and effort sessions. Sessions run three evenings a week and include paced road running, hill training, endurance and speed work.
Sessions are held three times a week: Tuesday and Thursday from the Rugby Club (run and run/walk groups, effort sessions, hill training or endurance), and Friday from Fox Cover car park (a social 5 mile run, slower or faster only, no run/walk). Tuesday run groups are split by pace: Group 1 (8:30-10 min/mile), Group 2 (10-11), Group 3 (11-12), Group 4 (12-13) and run/walk for beginners; runners can move between groups as they progress. Effort sessions have two groups focused on speed work for 5k and 10k and accommodate all paces. The club also runs regular Couch to 5K courses. Newcomers can come to any session, arriving 15 minutes early on a first visit, and have 2-3 free runs before discussing membership. Hi-viz clothing is requested on dark nights.
