Run club in Melbourne
Western Athletics is an athletics club in Melbourne's western suburbs, formed in 1995 from the merger of the Footscray, Sunshine and Werribee clubs. It covers track and field, cross country and road racing, and also runs a recreational running group for people who want to keep fit without competing. Members of all ages and abilities train with club coaches at the track, with a weekly long run in the You Yangs on Sunday mornings.
Training is based at the Victoria University Sporting Complex track in Hoppers Crossing (Monday to Thursday afternoons/evenings, plus Saturday and Sunday by arrangement with a coach), at Sassella Park in Deer Park on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and at the You Yangs, Little River for the Sunday long run. During April some groups train away from the track, and first-time attenders are asked to contact the club beforehand. Membership includes free coaching year round (some coaches may charge depending on discipline), track and equipment access and a membership pack, and new members get a free three-week trial. Fees for 2026 are a club fee plus an Athletics Victoria base fee: Athlete Open (20 years and above) $80 + $195, with optional competition packages (XCR Cross Country $395, AVSL Track and Field $335, Max Package $455); Social Runner and Wynfit Runner memberships are $60 + $13.50, which includes limited personal accident insurance and a 10% discount on non-member XCR entry fees. Free Official and Coach memberships are available, and a 15% family discount applies when three or more Open or Junior athletes at the same address register together. Joining is done online and membership queries go to the club registrar; contact details are on the club website. Athletics Victoria athletics club.
