West 4 Harriers is a small running club based in Chiswick, west London, with members ranging from parkrunners to experienced marathon and ultra runners and ages from 18 to over 70. Sessions run from Chiswick Cricket Club near the river and Dukes Meadows, covering easy social runs, hill, track and interval work, and a monthly club handicap race. There is no pressure to race, though many members go on to compete for the club.
Club nights are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, meeting at Chiswick Cricket Club. Monday is an easy social run of 4-6 miles suited to prospective members; Tuesday is hills/track and Thursday is intervals, with a monthly club handicap race (3 miles in summer, 4 miles in winter). The training schedule also lists a Saturday parkrun and a Sunday long run. Running takes place on the Thames towpath between Hammersmith and Kew, in Richmond Park in summer and on local roads in winter, and members can take part in the Surrey League men's and women's cross country in winter as well as races at all distances. First-time visitors are asked to make contact before attending so the club can take their details and look out for them. Annual membership is £35, or £58 including England Athletics affiliation (the extra £23 goes to England Athletics and provides a race entry discount and an EA number). Prospective members are encouraged to try a few runs before joining; enquiries by email to west4harriers@gmail.com, with an online joining form for those ready to sign up. England Athletics affiliated club.
