Strathaven Striders is a local running club based in Strathaven, with members from the town and surrounding areas. It describes itself as a mixed ability club with a "no one is left behind" policy, welcoming runners of all experience levels, with adult groups split by how far and how fast members want to run. Sessions run Monday to Thursday and include coached group training and uncoached social runs, typically lasting around an hour.
Adult groups are split by distance and pace: Monday and Thursday social runs are uncoached mixed-ability runs with regular stops so everyone can run at their own pace; Tuesday evenings are coached sessions for those who can run continuously for 10 minutes; Wednesday evenings split into Beginners (a 10-week progression from 1 minute running with walk recoveries up to 10 minutes), Intermediates (3-4 miles, hills, speed intervals or endurance) and Advanced (5-6 miles, hills, speed and endurance). Coaches are trained by Scottish Athletics. On the last Saturday of the month members car share to a parkrun, described as suitable for first timers. There is also a Thursday 19:00 strength and conditioning class at Kirklandpark Primary School car park. Membership is £25 per year, running from 1 November to 31 October, with renewals due by 30 November, and can be joined at any point in the year. To join, complete the adult (18+) application form, download the Club app, pay the fee through the app shop to receive a digital membership card, then come to a session. Communication is mainly via the Club app and Facebook group. Questions can be emailed to the Membership Secretary, Nick, or to Head Coach Jane. The club also runs its own events, including 5K, 10K and half marathon distances, trail and hill races, summer time trials, a Club Championship points series, and the Run With The Wind 10K on Sunday 1 November 2026. scottishathletics affiliated club.
