East Kilbride Athletic Club is a Scottish Athletics affiliated athletics club, founded in 1959 and run as a charity (SCIO), based at the Athletics Hub at the John Wright Sports Centre with a 400m track. It caters for ages 9 upwards across junior, senior and masters groups, covering sprinting and sprint hurdles, middle distance, road, trail and cross country as well as field events. Adults include competitive athletes, returners and first-timers.
Core training nights are Tuesday and Thursday, with some groups having extra sessions set by the coach; senior groups train Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, and the middle distance group trains Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and optionally Saturday. There is also an informal but structured mixed-ability Adult Tuesday group led by Kelly Baillie, which includes parents of club athletes, returners and first-timers; as a guide participants should be able to run or jog around 8-10k in total, and the usual format is a mile warm-up, 45 minutes of reps (for example pyramids or 6 x 4-minute runs, sometimes a sustained run) and a mile warm down. Annual membership is £72 for seniors and all age groups other than Under 11s (£48), paid by monthly standing order (£6.00 per month for seniors, who pay for track use separately at the Sports Centre reception).
