St Albans Striders — a run club in St Albans. England Athletics affiliated club. Activities: cross country, hill fell, road running, trail running.
Training is on Tuesday evenings on the track at 19:00 (coach-led interval sessions, plus other interval options such as lake reps in the park during summer and hill sessions, depending on speed group), Thursday lunchtime track intervals at 12:00, and Thursday evening road runs at 19:00. Thursday evening road runs are member-led and announced at 19:00, described by pace in minutes per mile; the easiest option is usually 5 miles at 10 min/mile, ranging up to 7-8 miles at 7 min/mile. Informal runs are often organised by members at weekends via the club Facebook group. Newcomers may try three sessions before being asked to join; first-timers are encouraged to attend Tea Night on the first Tuesday of the month and to email membership@stalbansstriders.com in advance with some background about their running. The membership year runs April to March, aligned with England Athletics; 1st Claim membership including the annual EA fee is recommended for those racing under UKA rules, and joining is done by creating an account on the website. Members get free entry to the Mid Week Road Race League (summer) and two winter cross country leagues, county/regional/national cross country championships, use of the track on selected evenings, social events and retail discounts. The club organises the Fred Hughes 10 in January, the Summer Solstice 10k in June and the St Albans Stampede in September. England Athletics affiliated club.
