Run club in Derby
Shelton Striders RC is a UK Athletics registered running club in Derby, formed in 1984. It meets twice a week and welcomes all abilities, from new starters to established runners. Wednesday is a coached interval training night, while the first and third Fridays of the month are social runs in ability-based groups followed by refreshments.
Wednesday sessions are interval training that varies each week, run "to a whistle" so runners work at their own pace, with a structured warm-up and cool-down; qualified coaches and run leaders attend. From April to the end of September training is at Darley Park (18:30-19:30, often including hill work, no showers or changing facilities), and from October to the end of March it is at Moorways athletics track under floodlights (18:00-19:00, showers and changing facilities available). Anyone attending Wednesday training for the first time, including members, must arrange an induction with a coach beforehand, usually 15 minutes before the start (about 17:45 at the track). Non-members and guests may attend up to three sessions before deciding on membership and must sign in with the coaching team and give emergency contact details; registration takes place at the start of every session. Friday social runs are about 30 minutes based on ability, starting from the function room of The Brackens pub, followed by tea and biscuits and sometimes quiz nights. There are also weekend group runs, parkrun meet-ups, relays, handicaps, treasure hunts, social evenings and trips to races. Membership is completed via an online form under About Us > Membership Details; newcomers can simply turn up on a Friday, or contact the club by email or via Facebook.
