Run club in Settle
Settle Harriers is a running club founded in 1987, based in the North Craven area at the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales, covering Settle, Ingleton and Hellifield. It has over 200 active members, most of whom are fell runners, though members also race on road, trail and cross country. Typical sessions are social runs on local trails and fells, usually about an hour to an hour and a half, with the group often going to a pub afterwards.
Monday and Wednesday evenings are social runs catering for all abilities, starting at 19:00 unless otherwise stated; in summer these are trail or fell routes, and in winter a mix of road and off-road. On Mondays there are two groups: a Steady group starting at 18:45 at roughly 15 minutes per mile, and a Standard group starting at 19:00 at roughly 12 minutes per mile, both covering the same advertised route. Most Thursdays there is a coached session at 18:15 at Giggleswick Playing Fields, open to all speeds, abilities and ages. Meeting points change week to week and are published on the schedule and club calendar; last-minute details and sign-ups are handled through the club Facebook page, and signing up in advance is not essential but helps the run leader. Runners should bring suitable clothing and footwear, with FRA kit requirements for off-road runs and, on the winter schedule (28 September to 30 March), full waterproofs, hat, gloves, whistle and head torch. New members of any age or ability are welcome; a membership form can be downloaded from the site. The club also runs an intra-club championship and organises four senior fell races: Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, Settle Hills and Ingleborough. England Athletics affiliated club.
