Portobello Running Club is an adult club (enrolment from age 18) based in the east of Edinburgh, in Portobello where the city meets the Firth of Forth. It has over 170 members of mixed ages and abilities, split roughly evenly between men and women, and describes itself as competitive but friendly. Coached training runs every Wednesday, with three groups on offer and sessions ranging from tempo and intervals to fartlek and hill reps.
Wednesday coached training starts at 18:30 with three groups, so runners can choose the session that suits them; an example session is a warm-up and dynamic stretches, 3 x 1km just faster than target pace and 3 x 1km just slower, then cool down. Winter training (from 16/09/26) is based at Powerleague Portobello, 10 Westbank Street, with toilets, lockers (bring your own padlock) and parking, and most sessions on the Promenade or nearby well-lit, low-traffic areas; hi-viz kit is requested. From April to September the club meets outside the Royal Commonwealth Pool under the canopy at 18:30 and trains in and around Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat. On the last Wednesday of each month there is a coached track session at Dalkeith Campus track, with a £2 contribution towards track hire. Many members also meet on Sunday mornings for longer easy-paced runs at varying locations across the city, advertised via the closed Facebook group and the club calendar. The first night is free; after that subs are £1 a week at the Wednesday session, with standard annual membership of £20 paid through Entry Central. Enquiries via the Contact page; the club is also on Facebook and Strava. scottishathletics affiliated club.
