Run club in Newquay
Newquay Road Runners is a road running club founded in 1983 and based at Newquay Sports Centre, with membership of over 200 runners aged 16 to 70 plus. It caters for all paces and abilities, from complete beginners through to members racing across Cornwall, the UK and abroad. Sessions run Monday to Friday and include easy social runs, interval training, a beginners' group and a main Wednesday club night, followed by refreshments or a social in the bar.
Weekly sessions include a Monday easy run of 4-5 miles from Newquay Sports Centre, interval training on Tuesday and Friday mornings (organised by Paul Wright, free, session plans posted on the group's Facebook page each Monday and Thursday), a free Tuesday evening "Introduction to Running" group open to anyone over 16, the Wednesday club night with group runs for all abilities followed by a social in the WAX Bar from 20:00, and a Thursday sprint interval session led by Ray at a location that changes. Once a month from September to June there is an additional interval session at Par Track on a Wednesday or Thursday at 18:30, with a charge to cover track hire and floodlights; a grass-track interval session runs at Newquay Sports Centre on Wednesday evenings from late April/early May to early September at around 18:45. Hi-vis clothing is required during winter evenings. Membership for 2026/2027: ordinary adult ยฃ34, second claim ยฃ11, social (non-running) ยฃ5; payable by bank transfer or cash/cheque at Wednesday club nights. There is no obligation to join on the first night or to race. Coaching is led by Paul Wright, supported by several qualified CiRF coaches and Leaders in Running Fitness.
