Napier Harrier Club

Napier Harriers is a long-established running club in Taradale, Napier, founded in 1934 and open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. It offers both competitive racing and social running, with group runs at weekends, club races and social events, and members ranging from beginners to experienced athletes. The club is affiliated with the Taradale Sports Association and shares clubroom facilities with local tennis, cricket and football clubs.

Membership covers several categories: child and junior grades, 15 and over social, 20 to 22 years, 23 and over competitive (Athletics New Zealand registered), and a club supporter option, with annual fees ranging from about NZ$20 for the youngest grade to NZ$126 for adult competitive members; fees are split between Athletics NZ, Hawke's Bay Gisborne, the Taradale Sports Association and the club. Families with three or more members may qualify for a family discount, and payment options can be arranged by contacting the club. Registration is through the club website, though it closes near the end of the harrier season, when prospective members are asked to make contact first; joining also subscribes you to the weekly newsletter. Harrier competition age grades run from Cubs through to Senior, Master (from age 35) and a social run/walk grade for any age, and the club uniform (racing singlet, tee shirt or crop top with black shorts) must be worn at all races.
