Run club in MARCH
March Athletic Club is a running club based at Elm Road Sports Field in March, Cambridgeshire, meeting on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with an occasional Sunday long run. It describes itself as not an elite club, welcoming runners of all ages and abilities from beginners to marathon runners. Members can run to keep fit or take part in races through the year, including cross country.
Tuesday is speedwork, with sessions varying week to week: one group starts at 18:00 and usually works on the field, another starts at 18:30 with a warm-up from the club before running efforts in various locations. Thursday has a warm-up at 18:15, then group runs set off from 18:30 at intervals by pace so everyone finishes at a similar time for tea afterwards; one group covers about 5 miles with a group leader at the pace of the slowest runner, while others run the full route of around 10K, with quicker runners leaving at roughly 5-minute intervals. A small group occasionally meets on Sunday at 08:30 for a long run. Membership is ยฃ40 a year, expiring at the end of March with renewal due 1 April, and includes training, events and ยฃ2 off affiliated race entry fees; PDF and Excel membership forms can be downloaded from the site. The club has a qualified UKA coach, 5 assistant coaches and 6 first aiders. Changing and shower facilities are available and refreshments can be bought after the run.
