Run club in Dunedin
Leith Harrier & Athletic Club is a Dunedin club affiliated with Athletics Otago, covering road, cross country, trail and ultra running as well as track and field. Weekly adult sessions include track or field training on Tuesdays, a hill and sand dune session on Thursdays and a longer Sunday morning run shared with Hill City-University and other local clubs. Sunday runs last one to two hours with slow, medium and fast packs on roads and trails around Dunedin, followed by refreshments and a social chat in the clubrooms. The club also organises events such as the 3 Peaks Mountain Race and social runs through the year.
Weekly sessions are organised by club coach and president Chris Sole, with reminder emails sent to members on Mondays. Tuesday sessions meet from 17:00 for warm-ups and begin at 17:30 on the track at the Caledonian Ground, Logan Park, or on the fields opposite the tennis court parking area at Logan Park while the Caledonian track is closed for about six weeks of resurfacing. Thursday sessions meet at 17:15 for a 17:30 start, usually at the Tomahawk Football Field next to the beach car park, and typically involve a sustained session of 10 to 12 sand dune repetitions on Tomahawk beach, with the option to alternate, skip some or work to feel; the venue can change, so runners are advised to check with the coach. Sunday runs are combined with Hill City-University and other Athletics Otago affiliated clubs, with social, medium and faster packs, roads and trails, and refreshments in the clubrooms afterwards. Tuesday training is open to the wider community and club membership is not required to attend. Club hoodies, fleeces, T-shirts and caps are available, and the site has Membership, Join and Contact pages; contact details are on the club website. Athletics NZ affiliated club (seniors, masters, half-marathon training, harriers / cross-country).
