About

Hill City-University Athletic Club is a Dunedin-based running, walking and athletics club for competitive and non-competitive athletes of all ages and abilities. In winter the Harrier season offers social run groups graded by ability, from slower runners to faster ones, over varied Dunedin terrain, plus a social walking group. In summer the club competes in track and field at the Caledonian Ground, and it also runs a calendar of club and Otago interclub races, relays and fun runs.

The club offers club and destination runs, coaching and training groups (middle and long distance, and track and field), club events and workshops, and hosts races including the Shunters and Grunters Relay, the Lovelock Relays, the TK Cowan Race and the Colin Holmes/Alice Baker Memorial 5km. Membership is bought online through the club website and comes in social or competitive options; competitive is recommended for anyone wanting to enter interclub harrier or athletics events, and it adds selection eligibility for team competitions and extra athlete support. For 2026-27 the fees for ages 23 and over are $90 social and $149 competitive, with lower rates for younger age groups and $0 volunteer categories; fees include Athletics Otago and Athletics NZ levies, and membership runs 12 months from registration for adults. A registration walkthrough guide, the winter Harrier programme and the track and field calendar are published on the site, and contact details are on the club website. Athletics NZ affiliated club (seniors, masters, harriers / cross-country).
