Run club in Christchurch
Christchurch Runners is a small UK Athletics affiliated social running club of around 50โ60 members, based at the East Christchurch Sports and Social Club in Dorset. It was formed in 1982 as a works club and is open to runners of all standards, with a handicapping system so members of varied speeds can compete on equal terms. Typical sessions are a 5km Monday social run and midweek training events such as monthly races, hills, beach runs, cross country and pace judgement, plus longer Friday runs.
Monday social runs are about 5km from the club house (various locations in June, July and August); Wednesday training runs can be attended at 12:30 or 18:00 and follow a rotating programme of training competition events; Friday long runs are at lunchtime from October to March and in the evening from April to September. The club does not run coaching sessions. A free Couch to 5k course, in its 12th year, restarts in April 2026 (couchto5k@christchurch-runners.org.uk). Newcomers can turn up to the Monday 18:00 run or contact the club first, then join by completing the membership form after a few runs. Running club subscription is ยฃ10 a year, plus required ECSSC membership (Individual ยฃ21, Family ยฃ30, OAP ยฃ10.50); UK Athletics membership is optional at extra cost. Event details, maps, GPX and timing instructions are published via Spond 48 hours before each event. Changing rooms and showers are available at ECSSC.
