Run club in Brandon
Brandon Fern Hoppers is a social trail running club based in Brandon, with most club runs off-road on the forest trails of Thetford Forest. Members range in age and ability, from beginners to marathon runners, and the club says no one is left to run alone until they are confident to do so. It is affiliated to British Athletics and the Association of Running Clubs.
Three weekly sessions: Tuesday 18:30 is a social run of roughly 3-6 miles suitable for any ability, sometimes as one group and sometimes split into two groups running different distances or paces; Thursday 18:30 is a structured training session whose location varies and may include sprints, running to pace, time trials or hill work, with a weekly email giving details; Sunday 09:00 is a social run traditionally up to 10 miles, though currently typically a steady 3-6 miles at 10-11 min/mile. Meeting points vary by season: Brandon Country Park on Sunday mornings, Mayday Car Park Fire Road 6 for summer Tuesdays and summer hills, Library Car Park for winter Tuesdays, Richmond Road for Thursday training, and West Tofts for the summer 5k handicap. Annual membership is ยฃ10, with an optional additional ยฃ23 for England Athletics affiliation. Non-members can try sessions before joining; the club asks visitors to make contact first via the website contact form as times and places can vary, to bring emergency contact details, and to wear hi-vis on dark winter evening runs.
