Run club in Birmingham
Birmingham Swifts is a free LGBTQ+ running club in Birmingham city centre, open to everyone regardless of ability, age, gender or sexuality (18 and over only). The main activity is a Thursday evening social run of about 4-5 miles using a loop system so faster runners can add distance while the group stays together. The club also runs free Couch to 5K "Starting Out" courses and joins local parkruns.
The Thursday run starts at 19:00 prompt from Pagoda Island, with bag drop and changing facilities (no showers) at The Fox pub, 17 Lower Essex Street, from 18:15; the run usually lasts under an hour and covers 4-5 miles, with food and drinks at The Fox afterwards. Runners are asked to be able to cover around 5-7km; those who cannot yet are directed to the free Starting Out (Couch to 5K) course, a roughly 10-12 week programme held on Thursdays, meeting 18:50 for a 19:00 start at Pagoda Island, with two further self-led runs each week. Members join local parkruns on Saturdays and many take part in races. Sessions are led by England Athletics qualified coaches and run leaders who can help with training plans. Membership is free; a paid membership is also available for supporters and for England Athletics affiliation, giving race and shop discounts. Book onto each week's run via the ClubSpark England Athletics page or the Run Together app, and complete the Swifts free membership form for emergency contact details.
