Run club in Doncaster
Askern District Running Club (ADRC) is a club founded in 1982 that focuses mainly on road running, with members also taking part in cross country and fell racing. It welcomes runners of all levels, from novice joggers to experienced marathon runners, and is open to all genders. Club nights involve training runs arranged on the night to suit a range of abilities and distances, with changing facilities and showers available at the leisure centre.
The club meets every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7pm year-round at Askern Leisure Centre. Tuesdays are group speed sessions (for example 8 x 1k intervals, 5 x 2k with 90 second recoveries, or pyramid intervals), with a more relaxed group also available for those who do not want faster running; Thursdays are a relaxed group run. Sessions are designed to fit into about an hour including warm-up and warm-down and can be adjusted to any level of fitness. A time trial is held on the first Thursday of each month, followed by a social with chips at Nortons Working Mens Club; there are summer (4.5 miles) and winter (4.67 miles) time trial routes, plus a 5.77 mile Little Smeaton/Stubbs run. The club competes in the South Yorkshire Road and Cross Country Leagues and team relay events, and members attend local parkruns on Saturday mornings. Runners are asked to wear reflective gear and lights when dark and not to wear earphones. The club has no track facilities and cannot accommodate young children as training takes place on public roads.
