Run club in Toronto
Toronto West Athletics is a not-for-profit distance running club in Toronto's West End, founded in 2016 and run by coaches, parents and athletes. It offers middle and long distance and cross country training for ages 8 and up, including high school, college and a Masters group for adults. Typical weeks involve speed and distance sessions on weekday evenings and a longer group run at the weekend, supported by strength training, nutrition workshops and mental performance coaching.
Training focuses on middle and long distance running (400m, 800m, 1,500m track) and cross country; sprints and field events are not offered. Groups run from Grade 3 through high school, college/university and a Masters group, with adults coached in the Masters and Senior groups. The year is split into three seasons - indoor track January to March, outdoor track April to July and cross country August to November - with breaks in between, and practices continue year-round. New runners can take a free two-week trial, attending workouts and meeting the coaches before deciding on full registration. Annual fees range from $650 to $1,000 depending on the athlete's age, covering January to December including club membership and mandatory provincial registrations; fees are prorated for those joining partway through the year and grants or financial support may be available. The club year starts in January but athletes can join at any time by sending an inquiry to the registrar; contact details are on the club website.
