Thames Valley Harriers is an athletics club founded in 1887 and based at Linford Christie Stadium in West London, covering track and field, cross country and road running. Adult endurance and middle-distance groups train on the track alongside weekend hills and long runs, with athletes ranging from recreational runners to international competitors. The club is a Community Amateur Sports Club run by volunteers.
Adult endurance running is coached in two main strands: Bob Empson and Rob Ferguson lead a Tuesday 19:15 session for runners already comfortable with structured track training and a Wednesday 18:30 session suited to those newer to structured sessions or track work, meeting just to the right of the stadium as you look at the track and starting punctually with a group warm-up. Dave Wilkinson, Robert Datnow and Chemsou Eddine Bourezama coach a middle-distance group (400m to 5,000m, with some athletes racing 10k, half and full marathon) on Tuesday and Thursday 18:30–20:00, meeting around the finish line, plus Saturday mornings at variable time and location; their programme also includes weekend hills, plyometrics, strength and conditioning and Sunday group long runs. Sprints and hurdles groups also train Tuesday and Thursday evenings and at weekends. Road runners take part in the club's Ron Hopcroft Endurance Cup summer series and regional/national road relays; the cross country season runs October to March. The club is funded by membership fees and donations. Prospective members are advised to message the relevant coach before attending, though you may also turn up at the track; general coaching enquiries go to Head of Coaching Gary Telfer at coaching@thamesvalleyharriers.com, and joining is via the "Join us" pages.
