About

Styal Running Club is an adult running club formed in 2006 and based at Wilmslow Phoenix Sports Club in Wilmslow, Cheshire. It has around 120 adult members of a wide range of ages and abilities, running in three pace groups. Sessions use local roads and off-road routes through surrounding National Trust land, and members race from 5k to marathon and beyond, though racing is not required.

Tuesday sessions are speed or hill work (sometimes all groups together, for example hill sessions at Quarry Bank) or occasionally a social run; Thursdays are 5-8 miles over local routes with tempo, fartlek or easy elements and training built in for those preparing for marathons and half marathons; Friday morning is a single-group social run of about 6 miles catering for all paces; informal groups usually run on Sundays, and there is a monthly "away" parkrun. Pace groups are: Group 1 up to 8 min/mile, Group 2 8-10 min/mile, Group 3 10-12 min/mile (tempo pace); members need to be able to run for about 50 minutes non-stop. Sessions are led by several Leaders in Running Fitness and members are asked to book online for each run. The club follows England Athletics health and safety guidance, and hi-vis clothing and head torches are mandatory in winter. There is a "Join us" page on the website and the club is on Instagram @styalrunningclub. No membership cost is stated. England Athletics affiliated club.
