Run club in Russell
Russell Run Club is a community club in Russell, Ontario offering running programs for casual social runners through to competitive racers, across road, track and trail. It grew out of a school running programme started in 2010 and now runs group runs, track workouts and events for all ages and abilities. Typical sessions are mixed-pace group runs of about 4-10 km on the New York Central Fitness Trail, plus structured track workouts.
Group runs are open to everyone, members and non-members alike, with a no-drop policy, group leaders guiding routes and multiple route options so all paces start and finish together. New runners must complete a waiver before their first session. The Tuesday run covers roughly 4-8 km on the New York Central Fitness Trail, with extensions up to 10 km when training permits; the Sunday run in Embrun is a relaxed social or long run of roughly 5-10 km, with alternative or extended routes up to 15-20 km. Thursday track workouts run from May to October at Russell High School, are led by NCCP-certified club coaches, cater for beginner to advanced (easy laps or an alternative workout are offered), and are free for current members; the season starts with a baseline effort and progresses through four-week blocks. Runs are only cancelled in unsafe conditions such as ice, storms or heavy rain or snow, or because of event conflicts, with cancellations posted on the website and social media. Annual membership (calendar year, not prorated, small processing fee) costs $50 for adults 18+ and includes Athletics Ontario and Athletics Canada road and trail membership, insurance, voting rights at the AGM, race and club gear discounts, and member events; joining details are on the club website. Athletics Canada affiliated club (via AthleticsReg; Road Running, Trail Running, Trail Running / Ultra / Marathon).
