Run club in Melbourne
Old Xaverians Athletic Club (OXAC) is a Melbourne athletics club founded in 1930 that competes in road, cross country and track and field events. It welcomes men and women of all abilities, from social runners wanting to keep fit to athletes aiming at championship level. Coached group sessions run three times a week year-round, with racing in the Athletics Victoria track season over summer and the Athletics Victoria and APSOC cross country series over winter.
Tuesday sessions start with a 18:15 warm-up, strides and drills on the ovals or local surrounds, with the session briefing and start at 18:45; structures vary between threshold blocks, fartlek and VO2 max intervals, and usually draw 30-50 runners from OXAC, HTC Tri Club, Inclusive Sports Training and de Castella Run Coaching. Thursday meets at Birdwood Avenue by the Botanical Gardens at 18:00 for warm-up or 18:30 for the session, often on the track at Lakeside Stadium or around the Tan, with 10-20 runners. Saturday is also at Birdwood Avenue, 08:00 for warm-up or 08:30 for the session, usually around the Tan, with most attendees going to a nearby cafe afterwards. Sessions are group-based but individualised in discussion with coach Anthony De Castella. Costs are $10 per session, $40 a month for membership or $80 a month for personal program coaching; club membership is $55 a year (1 April - 31 March) and is taken out via Athletics Victoria registration on revolutioniseSport or through APSOC. A WhatsApp group carries training updates, and contact details are on the club website. Athletics Victoria athletics club.
