Maryhill Harriers is a running and athletics club in north west Glasgow, founded in 1888, with senior and junior sections. Seniors train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from John Paul Academy, with groups covering a range of abilities from around 36 to over 60 minutes for 10k. Members race from 5k to ultra-marathons across road, cross country, trail and hill running, plus relays.
Senior sessions run Tuesday and Thursday at 19:00 prompt from Glasgow Life John Paul Academy. Tuesday is a speed night using the nearby Caldercuilt running track or surrounding area for hill reps, intervals and fartlek. Thursday is usually a tempo run of five to seven miles around the local area, with groups leaving at staggered times or running shorter or longer distances so everyone returns at about the same time. The club occasionally trains on other nights, including Sunday long runs or trail runs organised by members at an easy pace. Coaching is by Scottish Athletics qualified coaches. Newcomers can try the club for free; beginners or those returning from a break are advised to start with Tuesday sessions. Members also take part in a club merit league of 16 potential races, and the club hosts the Nigel Barge 10k each January.
