Run club in Melbourne
Knox Roadrunners is a not-for-profit road running club in Bayswater, Victoria, formed in 1987 by City of Knox staff who ran together at lunchtime. It has around 100 members aged from 20 to over 70, about 40% women, with paces ranging from sub-3-hour marathoners to slower and recovering runners. The core activity is a weekly Saturday early-morning long run of 10 to 35km with shorter options, run in pace-compatible groups with an emphasis on fellowship over performance.
The weekly run is a long run of 10-35km with 2-3 distance options each week, accurately measured and vehicle supported, with first aid available; distances build steadily between May and October in preparation for the Melbourne Marathon and Half Marathon. Courses change weekly, are published on the club Facebook page and are available as gpx files, and runners are expected to know the route and follow road rules. The club asks that new members can confidently run 8km at 6 min/km without walking breaks, though slower recovering-runner groups exist and prospective members can discuss their fitness level first. Membership is $65 to join and $50 a year after, the first year including a club singlet, and covers the weekly long run, post-run hot shower and tea/coffee, subsidised bus travel to major events such as Puffing Billy, and subsidised social events. Joining is via the new member form on the website, which then directs applicants to the Athletics Victoria portal for insurance and membership payment; contact details are on the club website.
