Holgate Harriers

Holgate Harriers is a running club based in Holgate, York, affiliated with England Athletics since April 2025. It runs weekly Thursday evening social runs split into three pace and distance groups, plus members-only structured sessions, easy runs, trail runs and a monthly parkrun. New runners can try the Thursday social run for two or three weeks before deciding to join.

Thursday social runs meet at York RI RUFC for a briefing around 18:45-18:50 and set off at 19:00, with three groups each led by a run leader and a back marker: 5.5k (6:30-7:30 per km), 7.5k (5:45-6:15 per km) and 10k (5:00-5:30 per km). Routes change weekly and are posted on the club Facebook page; bags and coats can be left at York RI, with a drink and chat afterwards. Members also get fortnightly structured/interval sessions every other Tuesday, women's only runs every other Monday in winter, easy runs every other Monday in summer, a trail run on the first Sunday of the month and a parkrun of the month on the second-to-last Saturday, all supported by qualified run leaders. Membership for April 2026 to March 2027 costs £35 full, £17.50 social and £17.50 second claim; full membership allows racing for the club, race entry discounts, entry to the York and District Road Race League and England Athletics membership. Sign up via the club's Google Form; help may be available if fees are a concern. A couch to 5km programme ran in January 2026 and another is being considered for January 2027.
