Run club in Whangārei
Hātea Run is a running club based in Whangārei, New Zealand, open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, including complete beginners. The club has been running for 69 years and holds group sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, covering road and trail on all surfaces. Typical sessions range from structured workouts and urban pack runs of 5k to 15k to long Sunday runs of 10 km to 35 km.
Weekly sessions include a member-led Tuesday "Tune Up" of structured workouts with warm up and cool down (meeting at the playground on Kensington Avenue at the sports field), a Wednesday early morning run from the Town Basin Playground, a Wednesday evening Urban Pack Run of 5k to 15k on road and trail with distances decided on the day, the Whangārei parkrun on Saturday morning at Te Matau ā Pohe bridge on Port Road, and a Sunday long "Lydiard" style run of 10 km to 35 km starting from the Adventure Forest car park in Maruata Rd (the group starts together and stays together for the first few kilometres, and runners should bring water). The last Sunday of each month usually meets elsewhere, so check the monthly programme. At some times of year the Wednesday evening run is replaced by the Hātea Grand Prix Series, the Night Series or a one-off event. Membership runs for 12 months from April and must be paid through the Athletics New Zealand website; categories include Competitive Member ($106 for ages 15-19, $134 for 20 and over), Social Member ($103 for ages 15 and over, $50 if Hātea Run is your second club), Volunteer ($50) and Life Member, with Athletics NZ fees included. First-time members receive a free 2XU club singlet. Non-members can take part in club events for a gold coin donation. Further contact details are on the club website. Athletics NZ affiliated club (seniors, masters, half-marathon training, harriers / cross-country).
