About

Derwent Valley Trail Runners (DVTR) is a trail running club based in Dipton, County Durham, founded in 2015 by Dawn Metcalfe. The club organises group runs on the trails of the Derwent Valley and says it caters for runners of all levels. Sessions are run as a group with run leaders, and the club also takes part in the North East Harrier League cross country.

The club holds two weekly sessions: Tuesday is a structured training session working on endurance, speed, strength and technique through drills and varied intensities, and Thursday is a social group run at conversational pace with the group staying together. All sessions are led by England Athletics LiRF qualified run leaders, and run leaders make sure nobody is left behind. Newcomers are encouraged to run with the club for several sessions before deciding whether to commit to membership; no fees are stated on the site. Most sessions start and finish in the car park outside Dipton Surgery, but the club advises checking in advance as it occasionally meets at an alternative location for an away day. Contact is by the website enquiry form or email contact@derwentvalleytrailrunners.co.uk, and the club has a Strava presence. It also organises the Red Kite Race and the DVTR Relays. England Athletics affiliated club.
