Run club in Birtley
Birtley AC is an athletics club based at Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy in Birtley, County Durham, welcoming all ages from 7 upwards and all abilities. Adult running is split into an endurance squad (late teens upwards, from returning runners to international athletes) and a Joggers group for those newer to running, returning from injury or trying a club for the first time. Sessions are coach-led and vary week to week, including hills, parlauf, speed work, relays, handicaps, lamppost sessions and strides, with road routes plotted from Lord Lawson.
Club training nights are Tuesday and Thursday, with the ethos page giving 18:45 and the taster page saying the group meets in the gym at Lord Lawson Academy at 19:00. Free taster sessions are available for up to two weeks via an online application form, after which members choose full membership (includes England Athletics registration and subsidised race entries) or social membership (train with coaches without competing); both also pay weekly training subs, paid through Spond whether attending one or both club nights, club code UBEEW. The Joggers group suits anyone able to run 3 miles and the club has run Couch to 5K programmes; coaches include an endurance coach, Joggers/Couch to 5K coaches and several run leaders. Club kit (vests, t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, track pants, shorts) is sold through the club shop. Contact: birtleyac@hotmail.co.uk or phone/text 07739097411. England Athletics affiliated club.
