Run club in Birmingham
Birmingham Running, Athletics & Triathlon Club (BRAT) is a club offering running, swimming, cycling and track and field, with running sessions used by both runners and triathletes. Adult run sessions cover road, off-road, cross country and track, and range from social group runs to coached interval training. A typical session involves a warm-up of about 1.5 miles followed by around 35 minutes of hard efforts, or an 6.5-9 mile group road route on Monday evenings.
Monday evening group runs start from the University of Birmingham Sport & Fitness entrance in Selly Oak at 19:00 (10:00 on bank holiday Mondays), using set winter and summer routes of roughly 6.5-9 miles. Wednesday road intervals start from the same venue (B15 2TT) at 19:00, finishing between 20:00 and 20:15; Saturday off-road repetitions start at the mac, Cannon Hill Park (B12 9QH) at 10:00 and last about an hour and a quarter, with optional coffee afterwards. For these sessions runners should be able to cover 10km at about 10 min/mile pace or faster; there is no separate charge as they are covered by BRAT membership, and prospective members may try up to three club sessions. Track sessions at the University of Birmingham Track (B15 2RA) cost ยฃ4 each: Tuesday and Thursday Senior Endurance (intermediate, 16+, coach Richard Carney, drills 19:00 for a 19:15 start, meet at the 1500m start, warm up on the road) and a Thursday beginners track session open to all abilities. Booking and membership are handled through the ClubSpark system, and members are asked to add emergency contact details and wear a BRAT ICE tag. Session changes and cancellations are posted on the central sessions and south Facebook groups. Contact: info@bratclub.co.uk. England Athletics affiliated club.
