Athletics Nelson

Athletics Nelson is a running and walking club based in Nelson, New Zealand, and describes itself as the largest such club in the Top of the South and the only senior club affiliated with Athletics New Zealand. It caters for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, from social participants to competitive athletes. Activities cover track and field in summer and road, trail and cross-country running in winter, with runs across local hills, roads, trails and tracks.

The club is entirely volunteer-run and offers coaching and group training sessions, plus free or discounted entry to more than 50 timed local events each year; a club events calendar lists what is on. Memberships are taken out through Gameday, the Athletics New Zealand online portal, and include affiliation to Athletics Tasman and Athletics New Zealand. Senior options (15 years and over) are competitive at NZ$129 a year for ages 23 and over, NZ$115 for 20 to 22, and NZ$68 a year for 15 to 19, or a social membership at NZ$55 a year; volunteer membership is free. A 15 percent family discount applies when three or more members register together, and club subsidies are available to help with event costs. Competitive members can enter local, regional and national championships, while social members take part in local events.
