Aldridge RC

Aldridge Running Club (ARC) is a club formed in 1988 with approaching 200 members, based at the Stick & Wicket in Aldridge, Walsall. It welcomes all adults regardless of gender, experience or fitness, from marathon runners to fun runners. A typical Tuesday club night draws 50-60 members, with five group options including 1-mile loops for beginners, 4-mile and 6-mile runs, and organised efforts sessions.

Tuesday club nights meet from 19:00 with runs starting around 19:10; groups cover 1-mile loops (beginners usually do 1, 2 or 3), 4 miles, 6 miles, and two efforts sessions based on repetitions focusing on hills or sprints. Each group nominates a member to look after it and no one is left behind. Two interval-based training options run alongside the steady runs: the Improvement Group, led by Lucy Baker, Tom Edwards, Tom Glibbery, Jess Jungklaus, Anne Kelsall and Henry Simpson, originally set up to help people improve 5k times and suited to those new to focussed training; and the Race Training Group, led mainly by Mike Morley and Daniel Day, with longer sessions aimed at more experienced runners though open to all. Both are open to all club members regardless of current performance. Thursday evening informal social runs start at 18:30 from the road outside the Stick & Wicket and follow a 4-mile route, with a faster group usually setting off from the Whitehouse pub corner (contact Michael Morley). Routes vary by season: spring/summer sessions use rural tracks and country lanes, autumn/winter sessions use well-lit roads and a hi-viz top is required. Session details and Tuesday schedules are published on the club app for members. The club also holds monthly summer handicap races on Tuesday club nights, a cross country programme, the Aldridge 10k, and sometimes arranges coach travel to UK events.
